We are especially pleased with the $75 million investment to create a Center for Learning at the site of the former Willowbrook State School in Staten Island.  Jose Rivera, Director of Quality Assurance at CP Nassau, has been a proponent of this initiative. Jose’s brother, Luis, endured the horrors of Willowbrook , inspiring Jose to be a tireless advocate for individuals with I/DD.

Governor Hochul’s commitment to increased wheelchair and mobility support is such significant news for individuals and families, and for organizations such as CP Nassau, who focus on improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.  For decades, advocates have been fighting for regulatory changes to improve wheelchair access and maintenance, increase reimbursement rates for wheelchair providers, and extend coverage for routine and preventive maintenance. Individuals with disabilities who require the use of adaptive equipment repeatedly state that their wheelchair is an extension of their legs. We are grateful for the opportunity to work on this initiative to enable individuals with disabilities to enjoy and participate in their lives with dignity and respect.

CP Nassau again thanks Governor Hochul for her recognition of I/DD services and we look forward to her continued support now and into the future.
