On Friday, January 31, barbers from the Barber and Beauty Institute (based in Hempstead) including some students from Roosevelt High School who are participants in the Barber Apprenticeship Program at their school, came to the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau and did great haircuts for some of the participants in the Adult Day Programs! Relaxing facials were offered too!
What a wonderful experience on so many levels! The generous sharing of time and talent by the Institute’s founders, Christopher and Cynthia Felder along with the other barbers was incredible! The men from our programs thoroughly enjoyed the experience and looked so handsome with their fresh cuts! They all had great things to say including how getting this cut made them feel important!
Can’t think of a nicer way to end the month! We hope to do this on a regular basis and are very grateful to the Barber and Beauty Institute for their caring and kindness!
We are grateful to News 12 for their interest and coverage of this great collaboration!

About the Barber and Beauty Institute and the Roosevelt HS Program
The Barber and Beauty Institute, based in Hempstead, was founded 19 years ago by the Felders, a terrific husband and wife team. The institute is fully licensed by the New York State Education Department and the NYC Department of Education and is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts & Sciences (NACCAS).
A prime example of their commitment to excellence and maintaining the highest standards of educating in the barbering industry is their program at Roosevelt High School, where they introduced barbering and natural hairstyling into the curriculum. This initiative has proven to be immensely successful, illustrating the practical benefits and empowering outcomes of integrating vocational training in high school settings. Students graduate not just with a high school diploma, but also with an apprentice license, fully equipped to enter the workforce immediately.
By graduating with both academic qualifications and a professional license, students are uniquely positioned for immediate employment, giving them a significant advantage in starting their careers right after high school. We believe that by introducing students to the barbering trade early on, we can open up new pathways to success and inspire them to explore their potential in this dynamic field.
