Students from the St. Martin de Porres School nearby in Uniondale recently heeded a call for help from Assistant Principal, Jessica Jean-Charles to organize piles of books and get them ready to be properly shelved in the library at the Children’s Learning Center (CLC). The CLC is the school at the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County in Roosevelt and about 240 children, ages 3 – 21 with developmental disabilities attend. The visiting students were members of the boys and the girls basketball teams and were all sporting their team jerseys over their school uniforms. The back of their “Clippers” jersey proudly proclaims, “Above all, charity.”
The students worked hard placing labels in specific colors on books arranged by subject matters, such as science, farm animals, seasons, oceans, sports and dancing. Teachers at the CLC devised their own version of the Dewey decimal system that would work well with the children who visit the library.
Coaches who accompanied the teams were Mr. Keith Lucchesi and Ms. Stephanie Lozano and they were very proud of the hard work and generosity of spirit shown by their players. The visit was extra special and meaningful because Keith’s Mom, Grace, who sadly passed away in June 2025, was a very loved educational assistant for many years at the CLC.
All at the CLC are so very grateful to the students and coaches from St. Martin de Porres School and want to express thanks for making a positive difference at the Children’s Learning Center.
