Holiday Extravaganza – at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY

This event is renowned for its spectacular array of designer-decorated trees and gingerbread village. Features continuous live entertainment, Santa, vendor marketplace, children’s activities, Department 56 village and display, and more! All trees and gingerbread are for sale. Visit the cpn Toy and gift shop for great bargains. Santa will be there and great photo opportunities will be everywhere you look! All proceeds raised benefit the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, Inc. (CP Nassau) and the Cradle of Aviation Museum.
Charles Evdos, Development Director at CP Nassau reports “This Festival is going to be the best ever! The trees are so creative and festive, the entertainment is top-notch, the vendor market place is now actually in the museum so guests can shop and experience all that the Cradle has to offer at the same time! Of course, we’ve got Santa and lots of fun things for the kids and all the kids at heart. We are grateful to all who work so hard to make this event a significant fundraiser for CP Nassau and the Cradle of Aviation.”
Star Wars will be the special theme on Saturday, with the group from the 501st Legion and Empire City Garrison mingling with guests from 10 am until 3 pm. Their crowd pleasing “Blast a Trooper” event will take place on the 2nd floor from 11am-1pm. The group will be center stage for a STAR WARS “Talk Back” in the entertainment area from 2 until 3 pm taking about their experiences and taking questions from their fans in the audience. The fantastic STAR WARS tree will be on display the whole weekend and is available for sale to the highest bidder! Also, an incredible STAR WARS Lego creation that is over 2 ft high will be on display and part of a raffle to raise funds for CP Nassau!
The Empire City Garrison, or ECG, is the New York division of The 501st Legion, the world’s definitive Star Wars costuming organization. One of the original ga
rrisons in a 6,000 member organization that spans across the United States and to nearly 50 countries around the world, ECG covers all of New York City, Long Island, and the five boroughs, enforcing the Empire’s rule and spreading the magic of Star Wars through appearances at charity events
ECG’s volunteer members pride themselves on their professionalism and attention to detail in bringing to life some of the most recognizable characters in the Star Wars universe, including Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Captain Rex, Commander Cody and a veritable army of Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers.
In addition to its charity work, ECG has worked closely with corporations including Pepsi, DK Publishing, Random House, Adidas, NBC, Verizon Wireless, and Lucasfilm itself to plan and execute major promotional events like movie premieres and product launches. Empire City Garrison members have appeared on the Today Show, Fox News, Discovery Science Channel, MTV, Spike TV, G4, and have even had the honor of ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

These trees are all for sale and, in addition, there will be 300 2 ½ ft trees in all different themes and wreaths and swags for sale with all the proceeds going to CP Nassau.
The sales desk for the large trees will be located right near the gigantic 12 foot tree in the main Festival area. Bids will be taken for all the trees and the tree will be sold on Sunday to the higest bibber. There will be some “buy now” possibilities too!
There will be continuous entertainment including many talented dance and choral groups.See the complete schedule on the website. Liat Gayr, a dancer with Leggz Ltd. Dance of Rockville Centre and a student at Hewlett High School has danced at the Festival of Trees for many years, comments, “As a member of the Leggz ensemble, my participation is a great experience and it helps the cerebral palsy center. How amazing it is for us dancers to get to do what we love and help people with disabilities in the process.” Jade Skinner, a 10 year-old from Hempstead will be dancing at this year’s Festival for the first time says, “ I’m so happy to raise awareness for CP Nassau! I’m a little nervous when I start on the stage but when I am finished, I feel happy and confident!”

Decorate a Cookie for Kids
Located in Hangar 2 – kids will have the great opportunity to decorate a cookie with lots of gooey icing and fun toppings! Let’s see how creative you can be!
Culinary students from the Barry Tech Institute in Westbury are creating almost 100 original gingerbread creations! Some of the creations will feature the Star Wars theme, so look for some Darth Vaders good enough to eat!
This amazing shop will be filled to the brim with pieces that collectors will love including many hard- to-find and retired pieces! Great prices on all! The display is truly beautiful and will be a joy to behold! 100% of the proceeds from the shop go directly to programs and services at CP Nassau! There will be lots of vendors selling all sorts of great items and you can do all your holiday shopping at the Festival and avoid the lines at the Mall and find terrific things at great prices!

With paid admission, children will get to decorate a gingerbread cookie with all sorts of fun trimmings in the cookie area. Entrance to the Cradle of Aviation Museum is included with paid admission to the Festival. The ticket to enter the museum normally costs $14 so guests are truly getting a real bargain while helping raise funds for 2 great organizations and having an enjoyable time!

All About the Trees
Chief Equipment is doing a “John Deere” themed tree that comes with a kid-size John Deere ride-on equipment! Connoisseur Media’s tree features a myriad of valuable tickets to fun shows and attractions! The unique trees by community groups and designers include, “Sweet 16” by the LI Children’s Museum, which features ornaments designed to look like popular sweet treats by children who visit the museum in celebration of the new year 2016. The Theresa Academy of Performing Arts from Lido Beach will create “Frosty the Snowman with the help of the talented student artist who participate in their programs for students with special needs. The LI Quilters Society based in Freeport’s tree is called “Starry Night” and every ornament will be handmade. “Play it Again Santa” by John Reid from Tricky Business Magic will let us in on some of the card tricks the jolly old guy has up his sleeve.
The Fashion Design Club from Nassau Community College is doing a “Dress of Many Colors” tree with all handmade dolls wearing costumes that reflect their heritage! The Syosset High School National Art Honor Society is doing a tree all in their school colors, red, white and black. There will be a Jets tree that comes with an autographed football. Au Pair in America’s tree is called “Greetings from Around the Globe” and the tree from AuPair in America called “Santa Travels Around the World” will be decorated by au pairs who hail from many nations! “Santa Paws” by Lynne, Lara and Nicole DiStasio, designers from Massapequa will appeal to all the dog lovers out there! The tree by the Metro Parrott Head Club will take you on a trip to “Christmas Island.” The Nassau County Firefighters Museum’s tree is called “Hot Stuff” and another tree called a “Firehouse Dream” by June Nagy and Barbara Teepe is always a favorite.
The Homemakers Council of Nassau County’s tree is called “Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole” and will include over a hundred ornaments all handmade by crafters from all over Nassau County! Cathy Lupo comments. “The Nassau Homemakers are very dedicated to the Cerebral Palsy Association year-round as volunteers. Our members helped to decorate hundreds of the small trees on display and for sale at the Festival. We are so happy to be able to help such a worth organization year after year.”
The Barbie tree is a girl’s dream come true with over a dozen vintage and current Barbie’s making this tree a vision in sparkle and glamour! Cindy Brzozowski donated all the dolls from her personal collection and as a professional designer, will help adorn this tree! Serge Alahverdian, also a professional designer will bring lots of glee with his “Happy Jolly Snowman” tree! The “Loving Hands” Group from Roosevelt made all the decoration for their “Winter Wonderland” tree by knitting or crocheting. The LI Knit and Crochet Guild also has handmade every single beautiful ornament on their tree called “Partridge in a Pear Tree.”
The Anton Media group will bring us “Holiday Shopping Through the Years.” And the Baldwin Homemakers will help experience the joys of a “Snow day” with their creation! Flowers by Voegler in Merrick will create a “Rustic Country Christmas” and “precious Moments to Remember” will be the idea behind the tree done by the Precious Moments club known as “Happiness is Belonging.” Students from the IDC class at the Wisdom Lane Middle School will make “Candyland” come alive with their creative tree! Kristi Halpern offers “Plaid Tidings” on her tree that features gorgeous ribbon!
LI Tree Toppers.com will make the Festival rock with their “Rock Around the Christmas Tree” and we can all agree with the LI Keepsakers Club that “Happiness is a Snoopy Christmas!” And CP Bayville will take us on an adventure with their “Dr. Seuss on the Loose” tree! “Wild Lizzy’s Dream Tree” will feature homemade treats good enough to eat! The Streng Family is doing a “French Quarter Tree that is certain to be delightful and it’s a pirate’s life for the Courtyard Crew’s “Captain Dan’s Courtyard Pirates”.
The Nassau County PAL Special Needs Unit will inspire all with their patriotic “The Last Four Letters in American is “I Can” tree. We will get the feel of the “Holiday Harvest” with the Old Westbury Gardens Tree and bling will abound on “All that Glitters” by designer Peggy Bridgewater. We will have a greater appreciation for the white stuff with “It’s Snow Wonderful” from the Suffolk County Homemaker’s Council. The Ladybugs from South Hempstead had done a special tree in memory of a friend that they have titled, “The Amazing Butterfly Tree.”
