Dear Festival Friend:
We hope that you and your family are safe and well as we continue to endure the COVID-19 Pandemic. At the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County, we have faced many difficulties and challenges. We say proudly that “heroes work here” because thanks to the dedication, skill and selflessness of so many staff members, the individuals with disabilities who live in the homes we run have been kept safe and well cared for. Teachers, therapists and others have worked hard and innovatively to maintain long-distance learning and offer therapies via telehealth for the children and adults with developmental disabilities we serve.
Our hearts are broken at the loss of some of the people we serve and co-workers as a result of the virus. We will never forget them and the difference they made in our world.
Please look at the CP Nassau website at www.cpnassau.org for stories and videos that will give you a look at what CP Nassau has been though since March. Our story was covered in a front page article in the New York Times and Bob McGuire, our Executive Director was interviewed by CBS, MSNBC, Reuters, PIX 11 and News 12 as well as other media. Many members of the Long Island community as well as people around the country and places as far as Thailand reached out to us with words of encouragement and generous financial support.
We recently came to the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Festival of Trees. With all the uncertainties and restrictions currently in place to battle the virus, having the Festival at the Cradle of Aviation over a three day period, expecting thousands of people, will be unsafe and therefore not feasible this November.
We do hope to keep the Festival spirit alive with the custom decoration and sale of some trees! We have a supply of trees and some of our talented designers have expressed the willingness to share their time and talent! We will reach out to individuals and companies to find “Holiday Angels” who want to purchase a fully decorated tree for $1,500, with all proceeds going to help CP Nassau defray astronomical expenses incurred for PPEs and other safety enhancements in the COVID battle.
If you or someone you know may have an interest in purchasing a tree please contact Pat Quinn at 516-378-2000 x 355 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We wish you and your loved ones well. Stay safe and enjoy the holidays. We look forward to getting in touch with you about plans for the 2021 Festival of Trees!
